Make it possible to pause a task
planned

Sometimes when I'm in then middle of a task I get a phone call which I time as well. After this phone call I would like to be able to pick one of the previous tasks and continue that one without having to enter the tag and the comment again.

  1. I believe the ability to merge entries would have a similar effect

  2. I'm not sure what you mean by "enter the tag and comment again"? If you use the popup timer it's as simple as clicking to pause timing, clicking to start it again. It sounds like you are entering times manually?

  3. jnicol, I think nrgiser meant that when he takes a call, he switches the timer to a different task. That is different from pausing the active task because you cannot resume the previous task. When you start the previous task (as a new timer entry) you must enter any tags/comments again manually. nrgiser wants this to be remembered so he doesn't have to enter it again.

  4. Solution suggestion: By default when starting a task, use whatever tags+comments were used in the last entry for that task. Advantage: A user would only need to update the fields when he wants to change or clear them. Disadvantage: This is a bother for those users that rarely reuse tags+comments, so perhaps make this a per-user setting?

  5. What about a drop-down list to choose one of the most recent tasks to continue?

  6. This may help show how I see it working: http://syntap.com/products_timestamp_productinfo.htm (only with better interface obviously!).

This program has a built-in slacking timer, so you can start a job and then flag it as slacking. I found it very useful, as I could track time wasted. Which is slightly different to pausing a task (to do another) but both could be implemented together?

  7. I believe this feature is already implemented. I use the popup and when I start working on a task, I click on its name, call it Task A. Then, if I need to start a different task, I click on Task A to stop its timer and then on Task B to start its timer. When I am done with Task B and ready to go back to Task A, I click on Task B to stop its timer and then on Task A to start its timer up again.

  8. Just make sure you click on the actual name of the task--dont click the checkbox. Clicking the checkbox itself will mark the task as completed and remove it from the list.

  9. joshcoady, you can just click the task you want - slim'll automatically switch you to that task… but that's not what the rest of us are looking for. Enter a comment while on Task A, click to Task B, click back to Task A, and your comment is gone. We want an easy way to reuse comments, especially the last one we were using on that task.
